Today’s first reading is a prayer to God to come and save his people. It is therefore one of the most sublime and important prayer that we find in the Holy Scripture. The people of God were suffering; and when it was too late, they realized that they have caused this because of their pride and sinfulness and their failure to listen to the word of God and put it into practice. They therefore ask God for forgiveness and for a new beginning in their hearts. I think we also need this important prayer in our life and for the world of today which is full of hatred, wars and all kinds of injustice.

As we have heard so many times in our lives, the word “advent” means “coming” The season of Advent is a time to prepare us to celebrate the birth of Jesus which took place about 2000 years ago and also Christ coming to us some day in the future. That is why Jesus is telling us to be prepare and to be alert for his coming. For us to be alert, we must remain focused on Jesus as savior and redeemer. Remaining focused means that we must continue to pray and act accordingly as follows of Christ. As servants who are always prepared for the master to return as we do not know when that day will be for us. All that we know is that he must surely come one day. For some, people prepare for Christmas by shopping for gifts, and buying clothes and other things and they neglect the spiritual aspect of it. It is nice to buy gifts for our loved ones and friends, but let it not be a hindrance for us to prepare spiritually for the coming of Christ. That is why Jesus is telling us to prioritize his coming and do all that we can to prepare ourselves for it.

As we prepare to celebrate Christ’s coming in the past, in the present and in the future, we hear him tell us once again “Be watchful, be alert.”

Today we are also starting our novena to the Virgen of Guadalupe. I therefore encourage you all to participate devotedly as we honor our mother, Mary. We shall be celebrating also the feast of Immaculate Conception with the celebration of Virgen of Juquila this year on the 8th of December. Beautiful things are prepared for us so come and enjoy the evening and the 
celebrations.

La primera lectura de hoy es una oración a Dios para que venga y salve a su pueblo. Es por tanto una de las oraciones más sublimes e importantes que encontramos en la Sagrada Escritura. El pueblo de Dios estaba sufriendo; y cuando ya era demasiado tarde, se dieron cuenta de que habían causado esto debido a su orgullo y pecaminosidad y a su incapacidad para escuchar la palabra de Dios y ponerla en práctica. Por eso piden a Dios perdón y un nuevo comienzo en sus corazones. Creo que también necesitamos esta importante oración en nuestra vida y por el mundo de hoy que está lleno de odio, de guerras y de todo tipo de injusticias.

Como hemos escuchado tantas veces en nuestras vidas, la palabra “adviento” significa “venida”. La temporada de Adviento es un tiempo para prepararnos para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús que tuvo lugar hace unos 2000 años y también que Cristo vendrá un día en el futuro. Por eso Jesús nos está diciendo que estemos preparados y alertas para su venida. Para que estemos alerta, debemos permanecer enfocados en Jesús como salvador y redentor. Permanecer enfocados significa que debemos continuar orando y actuando en consecuencia, lo siguiente de Cristo. Como sirvientes que siempre estamos preparados para que el amo regrese ya que no sabemos cuándo será ese día para nosotros. Todo lo que sabemos es que seguramente algún día vendrá. Para algunos, la gente se prepara para la Navidad comprando regalos, ropa y otras cosas, y descuidan el aspecto espiritual de ello. Es lindo comprar regalos para nuestros seres queridos y amigos, pero que no sea un obstáculo para prepararnos espiritualmente para la venida de Cristo. Por eso Jesús nos dice que demos prioridad a su venida y que hagamos todo lo que podamos para prepararnos para ella.

Mientras nos preparamos para celebrar la venida de Cristo en el pasado, en el presente y en el futuro, lo escuchamos decirnos una vez más “sean vigilantes, estén alerta”.

Hoy también iniciamos nuestra novena a la Virgen de Guadalupe. Por lo tanto, les animo a todos a participar con devoción mientras honramos a nuestra madre, María. Estaremos celebrando también la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción con la celebración de la Virgen de Juquila este año el 8 de diciembre. Nos preparan cosas bonitas así que ven y disfruta de la velada y del celebraciones.

Malachi and Jesus were dealing with the sinfulness of the religious leaders of their time. The priests in Malachi’s time were offering unworthy sacrifices to God and neglecting to teach the people how God wanted them to live. In Judaism, an animal that is to be sacrifice to God must be whole without any defect on the body. For example, an animal that is blind or lame cannot be sacrificed to God. But the priests were taking bribes from the people and offering those types of animals for sacrifice hence the calling of the prophet to them to change their ways and repent.

In Jesus’s day, the priests (also referred to as the Sadducees) received their share of condemnation from Jesus, but it seems the Pharisees and the scholars of the law received the majority of Jesus’s criticism. The Pharisees on the other hand were not priests but religious leaders who are trained in the law and leading the people in the study of scripture and also in liturgy. They were not all bad people, I must say, but they always have had an issue with Jesus. These were the people in authority over people and so people look up to them. In our church, also, we have leaders who are to teach us the way and who they themselves must be an example for us to follow. But what do we have now in the church? The abuse of children from some of our priests made it in such a way that priest have somehow lost their prophetical voice in teaching the people the ways of God. I think Jesus is calling today to reform our lives and be truthful to ourselves in the ministry he has called us to serve in. To do this we must have what we call the virtue of humility. Jesus is our example par excellence in terms of humility. Even though he was God, but he humbles himself unto death and for that reason the father raised him from the dead. May we try to imitate him in our own little ways we can to also reach the perfection that we are looking for.

Malaquías y Jesús estaban lidiando con la pecaminosidad de los líderes religiosos de su tiempo. Los sacerdotes en la época de Malaquías ofrecían sacrificios indignos a Dios y descuidaban enseñar al pueblo cómo Dios quería que vivieran. En el judaísmo, un animal que va a ser sacrificado a Dios debe estar sano y sin ningún defecto en el cuerpo. Por ejemplo, un animal ciego o cojo no puede ser sacrificado a Dios. Pero los sacerdotes aceptaban sobornos del pueblo y ofrecían ese tipo de animales para sacrificio, de ahí el llamado del profeta a cambiar sus caminos y arrepentirse.

En los dias de Jesús, los sacerdotes (también conocidos como saduceos) recibían su parte de condenación de Jesús, pero parece que los fariseos y los estudiosos de la ley recibieron la mayoría de las críticas de Jesús. Los fariseos, por otro lado, no eran sacerdotes sino líderes religiosos formados en la ley y que dirigían al pueblo en el estudio de las Escrituras y también en la liturgia. Debo decir que no todos eran malas personas, pero siempre han tenido problemas con Jesús. Estas eran las personas que tenían autoridad sobre la gente y por eso la gente los admiraba. En nuestra iglesia también tenemos líderes que deben enseñarnos el camino y que ellos mismos deben ser un ejemplo a seguir. Pero ¿qué tenemos ahora en la iglesia? El abuso de los niños de algunos de nuestros sacerdotes fue de tal manera que los sacerdotes de alguna manera perdieron su voz profética al enseñar al pueblo los caminos de Dios. Creo que Jesús está llamando hoy a reformar nuestras vidas y a ser sinceros con nosotros mismos en el ministerio al que nos ha llamado a servir. Para hacer esto debemos tener lo que llamamos la virtud de la humildad. Jesús es nuestro ejemplo por excelencia en términos de humildad. Aunque era Dios, pero se humilla hasta la muerte y por eso el padre lo resucitó de entre los muertos. Que intentemos imitarlo en nuestras pequeñas maneras para alcanzar también la perfección que buscamos.

For us to understand today’s first reading, we must know what happened before. Six 
hundred years before Christ, the Babylonians conquered the Jews and forced them into slavery in Babylon which is now present-day Iraq. This actually lasted for about 50 years when the Persian King Cyrus also conquered the Babylonians and allowed the Jews to return to their home land. He even encourages them to build the temple again to honor their God. This is what the prophet was trying to tell us by praising Cyrus the Persian king.

In today’s Gospel, we see how Jesus has confronted the Pharisees as they wanted him dead. The Pharisees did not like the Romans as they did not want to pay taxes to them. The whole drama too is that the tax must be paid with the roman coin and with the head of the emperor on it. The Jews we must understand also were against images for they see them as idol worship which is contrary to their believe in one true God alone. Jesus’ answer to them concerning the paying of the tax was so brilliant as he knew very well that they wanted to trap him. We must actually give to God what belongs to God and to man what belong to him as man. I am sure most of us find it much easier to cheat God than to cheat the government. If we cheat on our taxes, someone may soon notify us that we owe more than we claimed we owed. If we cheat on the time, we owe God or cheat on following God’s laws, no angel comes knocking, but it is our loss if we have not met our obligation to God, and what we have lost by cheating God can only be regained by change of heart. Let us reflect seriously on this gospel today and also give to God our time and talents  and all what he has given to us in life. By this we show our gratitude to him for his blessings on us.

Para que podamos entender la primera lectura de hoy, debemos saber qué sucedió antes. Seiscientos años antes de Cristo, los babilonios conquistaron a los judíos y los obligaron a ser esclavos en Babilonia, lo que hoy es Irak. En realidad, esto duró unos 50 años, cuando el rey persa Ciro también conquistó a los babilonios y permitió que los judíos regresaran a su tierra natal. Incluso los anima a construir nuevamente el templo para honrar a su Dios. Esto es lo que el profeta intentaba decirnos al alabar a Ciro, el rey persa.

En el evangelio de hoy vemos cómo Jesús se enfrentó a los fariseos porque querían su muerte. A los fariseos no les agradaban los romanos porque no querían pagarles impuestos. Todo el drama también es que el impuesto debe pagarse con la moneda romana y con la cabeza del emperador en ella. Debemos entender que los judíos también estaban en contra de las imágenes porque las ven como adoración de ídolos, lo cual es contrario a su creencia en un solo Dios verdadero. La respuesta de Jesús sobre el pago del impuesto fue tan brillante porque sabía muy bien que querían atraparlo. En realidad, debemos dar a Dios lo que es de Dios y al hombre lo que le pertenece como hombre. Estoy seguro de que a la mayoría de nosotros nos resulta mucho más fácil engañar a Dios que engañar al gobierno. Si hacemos trampa en nuestros impuestos, alguien pronto podría notificarnos que debemos más de lo que decíamos que debíamos. Si engañamos al tiempo, le debemos a Dios o engañamos al seguir las leyes de Dios, ningún ángel llama a la puerta, pero es nuestra pérdida si no hemos cumplido con nuestra obligación para con Dios, y lo que hemos perdido al engañar a Dios sólo puede recuperarse si cambio de corazón. Reflexionemos hoy seriamente sobre este evangelio y entreguemos también a Dios nuestro tiempo y talentos y todo lo que él nos ha dado en la vida. Con esto le mostramos nuestra gratitud por sus bendiciones sobre nosotros.

Fall is almost approaching and very soon the leaves will be turning yellow giving us the sign of the dawn of fall upon us. We will start to take out our winter clothes from the closets and start preparing them, for the winter.
 
In 587 BC when the Babylonians conquered the Jews, destroyed their temple, burnt their cities and took the surviving Jews to Babylon as captives and slaves, the Jews concluded God was punishing them for the sins of their ancestors. This was actually the Jewish concept whenever a tragedy happens to them, they will relate to their sins against God and that God is punishing them for their sins. They complained that God was not being fair to them. In our first reading we hear God tell them, through his prophet Ezekiel, it is their own sins that created the disaster they were suffering. Yet with God the situation is never hopeless. They could always change their ways. In the Gospel of today, we hear a similar message. If we have damaged our relationship with God, we can always turn thing right.
 
The parable of the two sons shows us two children who must have been a handful for their father. Neither one responded obediently to the father’s request for help in the vineyard. First son said No to the father but later repented and went to the vineyard. The second said yes but never went to the vineyard. Most of the times we also behave just like these two sons. Repentance must always be in our hearts and also when we say yes to God we must mean it in doing His will and also obeying His commandments in our lives. We must actually do what God wants from us and not what we want for ourselves.
 
As we celebrate the feast of the Lord again in the Eucharist, let us continue to pray for God’s grace to always do His will.

El otoño ya casi se acerca y muy pronto las hojas se irán poniendo amarillas dándonos la señal del amanecer del otoño sobre nosotros. Empezaremos a sacar nuestra ropa de invierno de los armarios y empezaremos a prepararla para el invierno.
 
En 587 a. C., cuando los babilonios conquistaron a los judíos, destruyeron su templo, quemaron sus ciudades y llevaron a los judíos supervivientes a Babilonia como cautivos y esclavos, los judíos llegaron a la conclusión de que Dios los estaba castigando por los pecados de sus antepasados. Este era el concepto de la realidad del judío que cada vez que les sucede una tragedia, se relacionarán con sus pecados contra Dios y que Dios los está castigando por sus pecados. Se quejaron de que Dios no estaba siendo justo con ellos. En nuestra primera lectura escuchamos a Dios decirles, a través de su profeta Ezequiel, que son sus propios pecados los que crearon el desastre que estaban sufriendo. Sin embargo, con Dios la situación nunca es desesperanzado. Siempre podrían cambiar sus costumbres. En el Evangelio de hoy escuchamos un mensaje similar. Si hemos dañado nuestra relación con Dios, siempre podemos arreglar las cosas.
 
La parábola de los dos hijos nos muestra a dos niños que debieron ser un puñado para su padre. Ninguno de los dos respondió obedientemente al pedido de ayuda del padre en la viña. El primer hijo le dijo No al padre pero luego se arrepintió y fue a la viña. El segundo dijo que sí pero nunca fue a la viña. La mayoría de las veces también nos comportamos como estos dos hijos. El arrepentimiento debe estar siempre en nuestros corazones y también cuando decimos sí a Dios debemos hacerlo en serio haciendo Su voluntad y también obedeciendo Sus mandamientos en nuestras vidas. En realidad debemos hacer lo que Dios quiere de nosotros y no lo que queremos para nosotros mismos.
 
Mientras celebramos nuevamente la fiesta del Señor en la Eucaristía, sigamos orando por la gracia de Dios para hacer siempre Su voluntad.

Last Sunday, Jesus gave us a method of resolving conflicts among us as his believers. The method that Jesus gave us was a good one. If we were to actually follow it, we could resolve a lot of problems in our society without any complications.
 
The first reading today invites us not to have hatred in our hearts towards one another. When we have hatred in our hearts, we actually consumed by it and disturb our hearts and health. But when we forgive one another their faults and sin against us then we can feel inner peace and tranquility. How often do we hear people say they cannot forgive the one who has offended them? St. Francis of Assisi tells us that in forgiveness we also receive pardon for our sins.
 
In the Gospel, Peter wanted to know how many times he can be able to forgive his neighbor. Peter wanted to limit forgiveness to just numbers but Jesus continues to teach us that forgiveness must be a lifelong affair and must be a part of our daily life as we are all human beings who offend one another all the time. If God can forgive us our sins by letting Jesus himself paying the price for our redemption, who are we not to forgive one another? Forgiveness always brings peace, joy, tranquility and harmony in our societies. Jesus himself once again on the cross forgave his enemies who crucified him by saying Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. We should always learn from our master himself this way of forgiveness.
 
Once again, I take the opportunity to thank you all for a successful feast that we had on the 3rd of September. As I always say, there is always strength when we come together with one purpose for the common good. We have exceeded the last year as you can see from the bulletin. May God continue to bless you as we continue to build a strong and a loving community.

El domingo pasado, Jesús nos dio un método para resolver conflictos entre nosotros como sus creyentes. El método que Jesús nos dio fue bueno. Si realmente lo siguiéramos, podríamos resolver muchos problemas de nuestra sociedad sin ninguna complicación.
 
La primera lectura de hoy nos invita a no tener odio en el corazón unos hacia otros. Cuando tenemos odio en nuestros corazones, en realidad nos consume y perturbamos nuestro corazón y nuestra salud. Pero cuando nos perdonamos unos a otros sus faltas y pecados contra nosotros, entonces podemos sentir paz y tranquilidad interior. ¿Con qué frecuencia escuchamos a la gente decir que no pueden perdonar a quien los ha ofendido? San Francisco de Asís nos dice que en el perdón también recibimos perdón de nuestros pecados.
 
En el Evangelio, Pedro quiso saber cuántas veces podrá perdonar al prójimo. Pedro quería limitar el perdón a solo números, pero Jesús continúa enseñándonos que el perdón debe ser un asunto de toda la vida y debe ser parte de nuestra vida diaria, ya que todos somos seres humanos que nos ofendemos unos a otros todo el tiempo. Si Dios puede perdonarnos nuestros pecados dejando que Jesús mismo pague el precio de nuestra redención, ¿quiénes somos nosotros para no perdonarnos unos a otros? El perdón siempre trae paz, alegría, tranquilidad y armonía en nuestras sociedades. El mismo Jesús una vez más en la cruz perdonó a sus enemigos que lo crucificaron diciendo: Padre, perdónalos porque no saben lo que hacen. Siempre debemos aprender de nuestro maestro mismo este camino del perdón.
 
Una vez más aprovecho la oportunidad para agradecerles a todos por la exitosa fiesta que tuvimos el 3 de septiembre. Como siempre digo, siempre hay fuerza cuando nos unimos con un propósito para el bien común. Hemos superado el último año como podéis comprobar en el boletín. Que Dios continúe bendiciéndolos mientras continuamos construyendo una comunidad fuerte y amorosa.

Shebna was a powerful man in the court of King Hezekiah in Judah 700 years before Christ. Next to the king, he had the most powerful position in the kingdom. Shebna’s powers went to his head and used his position to exploit the poor and the innocent in order to make
himself exorbitantly rich. God said through Isaiah that Shebna needed to be replaced by a person of integrity. The reason why this passage was selected today for the first reading is link to what we are going to be hearing in the gospel of today about keys of heaven given to Peter. Keys are a symbol of authority. But before we go to the gospel passage the first reading speak to us that in the world of today also people look for power and most often they abused the power given to them and they make themselves rich at the expense of the masses. But for us Christians our life must be an example of integrity and honesty.
 
Coming to today’s gospel, Jesus posed an important question to his apostles by trying to know what people thought of him. He later directed this particular question to the apostles themselves. Peter was the one who answered it correctly and for that reason Jesus told him to be the leader for the rest and to direct the church that he will form. In the scriptures, Peter have been given preeminent positions among the apostles, but there are two places where his position has been clearly stated. The first is the gospel of John where Jesus told Peter to feed his lamb and to feed his sheep. And today we have the second one where Peter was given the keys of the kingdom.Before this, Peter told Jesus he is the true Messiah that has come. The question that Jesus posed to the apostles is also for us today personally and each one of us is to answer it according to our perception of who Jesus is for us in our daily lives. We may all have a different view about Jesus. For some people, Jesus may be the one who protects and guide them. For others, he is the one who has cured them from a sickness or other things in life. The simple question for us today is why am I following Jesus? Let each one of us answer this question from his or her heart.
 
We have started our novena towards the celebration of the feast of the Divine Infant Jesus. I therefore encourage you to continue to participate in devotion until we celebrate the feast.

Sebna era un hombre poderoso en la corte del rey Ezequías en Judá 700 años antes de Cristo. Después del rey, tenía la posición más poderosa del reino. Los poderes de Sebna se le subieron a la cabeza y utilizó su posición para explotar a los pobres y a los inocentes con el fin de hacerse exorbitantemente rico. Dios dijo a través de Isaías que Sebna necesitaba ser reemplazada por una persona íntegra. La razón por la que se seleccionó este pasaje hoy para la primera lectura es un vínculo con lo que vamos a escuchar en el evangelio de hoy sobre las llaves del cielo dadas a Pedro. Las llaves son un símbolo de autoridad. Pero antes de pasar al pasaje del evangelio, la primera lectura nos dice que en el mundo de hoy también la gente busca poder y la mayoría de las veces abusan del poder que se les ha dado y se enriquecen a expensas de las masas. Pero para nosotros los cristianos nuestra vida debe ser un ejemplo de integridad y honestidad.
 
Al llegar al evangelio de hoy, Jesús planteó una pregunta importante a sus apóstoles al tratar de saber qué pensaba la gente de él. Más tarde dirigió esta pregunta particular a los propios apóstoles. Peter fue quien respondió correctamente y por eso razón por la cual Jesús le dijo que fuera el líder de los demás y que dirigiera la iglesia que él formaría. En las Escrituras, a Pedro se le han dado posiciones preeminentes entre los apóstoles, pero hay dos lugares donde su posición se ha declarado claramente. El primero es el evangelio de Juan, donde Jesús le dijo a Pedro que alimentara a su cordero y apacentara a sus ovejas. Y hoy tenemos el segundo donde a Pedro le dieron las llaves del reino. Antes de esto, Pedro le dijo a Jesús que él es el verdadero Mesías que ha venido. La pregunta que Jesús planteó a los apóstoles es también para nosotros hoy personalmente y cada uno de nosotros debe responderla según nuestra percepción de quién es Jesús para nosotros en nuestra vida diaria. Es posible que todos tengamos una visión diferente sobre Jesús. Para algunas personas, Jesús puede ser quien las proteja y guíe. Para otros, él es quien los ha curado de alguna enfermedad u otras cosas de la vida. La pregunta sencilla para nosotros hoy es ¿por qué sigo a Jesús? Que cada uno de nosotros responda a esta pregunta desde su corazón.
 
Hemos iniciado nuestra novena hacia la celebración de la fiesta del Divino Niño Jesús. Por tanto, yo les animo a continuar participando en la devoción hasta que celebremos la fiesta.

The first reading today reveals to us about the prophet Elijah who was trying to flee from persecution because he challenged the gods of the Baals. In this chapter, the prophet thought he was going to hear the voice of God in a more dramatic ways like in thunder, wind and fire, but God revealed himself to him in a gentler way. That is how God actually reveal himself to us especially using the silence in our hearts to speak to us. We have to remain calm in order to listen to the voice of God.

In the second reading for today, Paul had to let the Romans know that the gospel of Jesus that he preaches is the truth and not lies. His own life is a witness to the word of the message that he preaches to the people. The word of God is truth and life for those who believe in him.

We see in today’s Gospel how Jesus demonstrated his power over nature itself. To walk on water is not a usual thing done by a person, but Jesus proved that even nature can obey him and that he has control over it. Usually when Jesus worked a miracle, he was responding to someone’s needs: hunger, sickness, possession from an evil spirit, storms on the sea. Jesus walking on the water is simply a manifestation of his divine nature.

Jesus assured his apostles not to be afraid as he is the one walking on the water. But Peter doubted and started to sink. There also Jesus stretched his hands toward him to rescue him from drowning. Fear of course is a healthy thing as it motivates us to protect ourselves from some threat to our own wellbeing or those we love. Fear stimulates us emotionally to prepare to fight or flight. But a lot of people are consumed by fears that are groundless, irrational, or certain things we can do nothing about except pray. Jesus is inviting us today not to be afraid but to trust in him always that he walks along the way with us and even if things are pressing on us or we are about to sink, he is still there to rescue us from them all. We just have to trust in him.

Very soon we shall be starting our novena for the celebration of the feast of the Divine infant Jesus. I encourage you all to fully participate in all the religious activities and the social activities we are going to be having. It is also a way also to come together and celebrate what we believe in as Catholics.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO
 
La primera lectura de hoy nos revela acerca del profeta Elías que intentaba huir de la persecución porque desafiaba a los dioses de los Baales. En este capítulo, el profeta pensó que iba a escuchar la voz de Dios de una manera más dramática como en el trueno, el viento y el fuego, pero Dios le reveló él mismo a él de una manera más suave. Así es como Dios se revela realmente a nosotros, especialmente usando el silencio en nuestros corazones para hablarnos. Tenemos que mantener la calma para escuchar la voz de Dios.

En la segunda lectura de hoy, Pablo tenía que dejarles saber a los romanos que el evangelio de Jesús que predica es la verdad y no mentiras. Su propia vida es un testimonio de la palabra del mensaje que él predica al pueblo. La palabra de Dios es verdad y vida para los que creen en él.

Vemos en el Evangelio de hoy cómo Jesús demostró su poder sobre la naturaleza misma. Caminar sobre el agua no es algo común que haga una persona, pero Jesús demostró que incluso la naturaleza puede obedecerle y que él tiene control sobre ella. Por lo general, cuando Jesús hizo un milagro, estaba respondiendo a las necesidades de alguien: hambre, enfermedad, posesión de un espíritu maligno, tempestades en el mar. Jesús caminando sobre el agua es simplemente una manifestación de su naturaleza divina.

Jesús aseguró a sus apóstoles que no tuvieran miedo ya que él es el que camina sobre el agua. Pero Peter dudó y comenzó a hundirse. Allí también Jesús extendió sus manos hacia él para rescatarlo de ahogarse. El miedo, por supuesto, es algo saludable, ya que nos motiva a protegernos de alguna amenaza a nuestro propio bienestar o el de aquellos a quienes amamos. El miedo nos estimula emocionalmente para prepararnos para luchar o huir. Pero mucha gente está consumida por temores que son infundados, irracionales o ciertas cosas sobre las que no podemos hacer nada excepto orar. Jesús es invitándonos hoy a no tener miedo sino a confiar en él siempre que camina con nosotros en el camino y aunque las cosas nos apresuren o estemos a punto de hundirnos, él sigue ahí para rescatarnos de todas ellas. Solo tenemos que confiar en él.

Muy pronto estaremos iniciando nuestra novena por la celebración de la fiesta del Divino niño Jesús. Animo a todos a que
participar en todas las actividades religiosas y las actividades sociales que vamos a tener. Es también una manera de unirnos y celebrar lo que creemos como católicos.

Permanezcan bendecidos y sepan que Dios te ama.
Alégrense en el Señor hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar el próximo domingo en la mesa del Señor.

When King David died, his son Solomon succeeded him as king of Israel. In today’s first reading, we hear the prayer of Solomon as he begins his reign. He prayed for an understanding heart so that he would reign well. Just think about the possible gifts that Solomon could have asked God, but he chose to ask for the gift of wisdom to be able to govern his subjects under him.
 
If we were to be asked to ask for anything from God, what would be our response? Maybe for some of us we would be asking for money or power or health or children or jobs or other things that are necessary for life. Wisdom may not be the first thing that we may think of. But here we are with Solomon giving us a good example as to what to ask from God and any other thing that will be added onto us. When Solomon asked for wisdom, it showed he was already wise. Unfortunately, he did not keep using his wisdom to serve God’s people well. He married too many wives, and the country went into bankruptcy so much so that when he died the country split into two kingdoms isolating the kings who were descendants of David and Solomon. Having wisdom does not mean that we can use it well.
 
Turning to the gospel message of today, it is the third week since we have been hearing about the kingdom of God in parables by Jesus himself. The question we must be asking ourselves is, what we would spend our money on like the people in the gospel? Notice how the one who found the pearl which is precious sold everything that he has to buy it. Likewise other people who after finding a valuable treasure sold all to buy that plot. All this means for us is that we must make heaven our priority in life as it is going to be our final destination and a treasure that we cannot afford to lose at the end. We must do all that is in our power and by the grace of God in order to attain heaven. St Augustine said, “We are created for God and our hearts are restless, until they rest in God.” So, brothers and sisters let us try as much as we can to work towards heaven as Jesus himself promised us that in his father’s house there are many mansions.

Cuando el rey David murió, su hijo Salomón lo sucedió como rey de Israel. En la primera lectura de hoy , escuchamos la oración de Salomón cuando comienza su reinado. Rezó por un corazón comprensivo para poder reinar bien. Piensen en los posibles dones que Salomón pudo haber pedido a Dios, pero decidio por pedir el don de la sabiduría para poder gobernar a sus sujetos bajo él.
 
Si pudiéramos pedir algo a Dios, ¿cuál sería nuestra respuesta? Tal vez para algunos de nosotros estaríamos pidiendo dinero o poder o salud o hijos o trabajos o otras cosas que son necesarias para la vida. La sabiduría no seria lo primero en lo que pensamos. Pero aquí estamos con Salomón dándonos un buen ejemplo de qué pedirle a Dios y cualquier otra cosa que nos será añadida. Cuando Salomón pidió sabiduría, el demostró que ya era sabio. Desafortunadamente, no siguió usando su sabiduría para servir bien al pueblo de Dios. Se casó con demasiadas esposas, y el país entró en bancarrota tanto que cuando él murió, el país se dividió en dos reinos, aislando a los reyes que eran descendientes de David y Salomón. Tener sabiduría no significa que podamos usarla bien.
 
Volviendo al mensaje del evangelio de hoy, es la tercera semana desde que escuchamos sobre el reino de Dios en parábolas del mismo Jesús. La pregunta que debemos hacernos es, ¿en qué gastaríamos nuestro dinero como la gente en el evangelio? Note cómo el que encontró la perla que es preciosa vendió todo lo que tenía para comprarla. Así mismo otras personas que después de encontrar un valioso tesoro vendieron todo para comprar esa parcela. Todo esto significa para nosotros que debemos hacer del cielo nuestra prioridad en la vida, ya que será nuestro destino final y un tesoro que no podemos permitirnos perder al final. Debemos hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance y por la gracia de Dios para alcanzar el cielo. San Agustín dijo: “Somos creados para Dios y nuestro corazón está inquieto, hasta que descanse en Dios”. Entonces, hermanos y hermanas, procuremos en todo lo que podamos trabajar hacia el cielo como Jesús mismo nos prometió que en la casa de su padre hay muchas moradas.
 
Una vez más, les agradezco a todos por su amor y cuidado que me han mostrado para la celebración de mi 25 aniversario.
