FROM THE PASTORS DESK
 
Today we celebrate the 16th Sunday in ordinary time. The theme of the readings
today is speaking to us about hospitality and also about listening to the word of the Lord.
 
The first reading and the gospel of today are linked by this theme of hospitality. Ever ready and gratuitous hospitality is a sign of service to our neighbors.  The kind generosity shown by Abraham towards his visitors is a good example for us to emulate. Hospitality must come out of the heart that is full of Love. When we show kindness to people it shows also that we care and love them as human beings created in the image of God like us.
 
The story of Mary and Martha stresses that service, even service to Christ, cannot be
separated from hearing his word. Martha and Mary both were playing their part in order to make Jesus happy. I think is very normal that when we receive a visitor, we do not
abandon the visitor alone in the sitting room, someone must be there to be talking to him or her. That is exactly what Mary did also in the gospel today as Martha was also going about to care or provide something for Jesus to eat. We must also know that the word of God is food for the soul and so Mary listening to Jesus was also feeding her soul and growing spiritually. Martha was also doing her part by rendering service and also there by growing spiritually. But the two must go together in each one of us meaning we must render service and also listen to the word of God to nourish us.
 
Paul in the second reading today wrote his letter from prison in Rome. Few people have worked hard as Paul did. In the reading he tells us about his suffering but that despite his suffering he is happy because he knows that he has
given his life to the gospel. Christ worked in him and though him, making himself present among the men and women of that time offering them his love.
 
We also have in our communities apostles as generous as Paul, those who do not spare themselves and who are not put off by difficulties. Their whole concern is to announce the gospel and for this, their memory will be blessed forever.
 
Let us all try in our own little way to be hospitable and generous to one another and to our parish and school, knowing that one day we shall also be remembered by our dedication and kindness.
 
May God keep us all under his care until we meet again next Sunday at the feast of the Lord.

Hoy celebramos el domingo 16 del tiempo ordinario. El tema de las lecturas de hoy nos habla de la hospitalidad y también de escuchar  la palabra del Señor.
 
La primera lectura y el evangelio de hoy están vinculados por este tema de la hospitalidad. La hospitalidad siempre dispuesta y gratuita es signo de servicio al prójimo. La bondadosa generosidad mostrada por Abraham hacia sus visitantes es un buen ejemplo para nosotros. La hospitalidad debe brotar del corazón lleno de Amor. Cuando mostramos bondad a las personas, también muestra que las cuidamos y las amamos como seres humanos creados a la imagen de Dios como nosotros.
 
La historia de María y Martha subraya que el servicio, incluso el servicio a Cristo, no puede separarse de escuchar su su palabra. Marta y María estaban haciendo su parte para hacer feliz a Jesús. Creo que es muy normal que cuando recibimos una visita, no la dejemos sola en la sala de estar, alguien debe estar allí para estar hablando con él o ella. Eso es exactamente lo que María hizo también en el evangelio de hoy, ya que Marta también iba a cuidar o proporcionar algo para que Jesús comiera. También debemos saber que la palabra de Dios es alimento para el alma y así María al escuchar a Jesús fue también alimentando su alma y creciendo espiritualmente. Marta también estaba haciendo su parte prestando servicio y también allí creciendo espiritualmente. Pero los dos deben ir juntos en cada uno de nosotros, es decir, debemos prestar servicio y también escuchar la palabra de Dios para nutrirnos.
 
Pablo en la segunda lectura de hoy escribió su carta desde la prisión en Roma. Pocas personas han trabajado tan duro como lo hizo Pablo. En la lectura nos habla de su sufrimiento pero que a pesar de su sufrimiento está feliz porque sabe que ha entregado su vida al evangelio. Cristo obró en él y a través de él, haciéndose presente entre los hombres y mujeres de entonces ofreciéndoles su amor.
 
También tenemos en nuestras comunidades apóstoles tan generosos como Pablo, que no escatiman en sí mismos y que no se dejan intimidar por las dificultades. Toda su preocupación es anunciar el evangelio y por eso su memoria será bendecida para siempre.
 
Tratemos todos, a nuestra manera, de ser hospitalarios y generosos unos con otros y con nuestra parroquia y escuela, sabiendo que un día también seremos recordados por nuestra dedicación y amabilidad.
 
Que el Señor nos tenga bajo su cuidado hasta el próximo Domingo en la fiesta del Señor.
