FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
 
Fall is almost approaching and very soon the leaves will be turning yellow giving us the sign of the dawn of fall upon us. We will start to take out our winter clothes from the closets and start preparing them, for the winter.
 
In 587 BC when the Babylonians conquered the Jews, destroyed their temple, burnt their cities and took the surviving Jews to Babylon as captives and slaves, the Jews concluded God was punishing them for the sins of their ancestors. This was actually the Jewish concept whenever a tragedy happens to them, they will relate to their sins against God and that God is punishing them for their sins. They complained that God was not being fair to them. In our first reading we hear God tell them, through his prophet Ezekiel, it is their own sins that created the disaster they were suffering. Yet with God the situation is never hopeless. They could always change their ways. In the Gospel of today, we hear a similar message. If we have damaged our relationship with God, we can always turn thing right.
 
The parable of the two sons shows us two children who must have been a handful for their father. Neither one responded obediently to the father’s request for help in the vineyard. First son said No to the father but later repented and went to the vineyard. The second said yes but never went to the vineyard. Most of the times we also behave just like these two sons. Repentance must always be in our hearts and also when we say yes to God we must mean it in doing His will and also obeying His commandments in our lives. We must actually do what God wants from us and not what we want for ourselves.
 
As we celebrate the feast of the Lord again in the Eucharist, let us continue to pray for God’s grace to always do His will.

El otoño ya casi se acerca y muy pronto las hojas se irán poniendo amarillas dándonos la señal del amanecer del otoño sobre nosotros. Empezaremos a sacar nuestra ropa de invierno de los armarios y empezaremos a prepararla para el invierno.
 
En 587 a. C., cuando los babilonios conquistaron a los judíos, destruyeron su templo, quemaron sus ciudades y llevaron a los judíos supervivientes a Babilonia como cautivos y esclavos, los judíos llegaron a la conclusión de que Dios los estaba castigando por los pecados de sus antepasados. Este era el concepto de la realidad del judío que cada vez que les sucede una tragedia, se relacionarán con sus pecados contra Dios y que Dios los está castigando por sus pecados. Se quejaron de que Dios no estaba siendo justo con ellos. En nuestra primera lectura escuchamos a Dios decirles, a través de su profeta Ezequiel, que son sus propios pecados los que crearon el desastre que estaban sufriendo. Sin embargo, con Dios la situación nunca es desesperanzado. Siempre podrían cambiar sus costumbres. En el Evangelio de hoy escuchamos un mensaje similar. Si hemos dañado nuestra relación con Dios, siempre podemos arreglar las cosas.
 
La parábola de los dos hijos nos muestra a dos niños que debieron ser un puñado para su padre. Ninguno de los dos respondió obedientemente al pedido de ayuda del padre en la viña. El primer hijo le dijo No al padre pero luego se arrepintió y fue a la viña. El segundo dijo que sí pero nunca fue a la viña. La mayoría de las veces también nos comportamos como estos dos hijos. El arrepentimiento debe estar siempre en nuestros corazones y también cuando decimos sí a Dios debemos hacerlo en serio haciendo Su voluntad y también obedeciendo Sus mandamientos en nuestras vidas. En realidad debemos hacer lo que Dios quiere de nosotros y no lo que queremos para nosotros mismos.
 
Mientras celebramos nuevamente la fiesta del Señor en la Eucaristía, sigamos orando por la gracia de Dios para hacer siempre Su voluntad.
  
Permanezcan bendecidos y sepan que Dios te ama.
Alégrense en el Señor hasta que nos volvamos a encontrar el próximo domingo en la mesa del Señor.
