The time that the prophet Zechariah prophesied, it was a difficult moment for the people of Israel and the Jews. It was the time they were conquered by the Babylonians and were taken to exile as slaves in a foreign land. After their return, most of them were disappointed and even lost hope in God. So, when the prophet was telling them to rejoice some of them did not see the reason why. But the prophet was trying to give them hope that all is not lost, and that God will make away for them again to prosper.
 
Coming to the Gospel, Jesus invites those who feel they are overburdened should come to him and he will make things better for them. In the ancient times, the use of the yoke is very common as two animals, especially donkeys or cows, wear it for the two to work in harmony and to be together as they work on the farm. Also, in the time of Jesus, the laws of Judaism were considered a burden for the people. So, when Jesus invites us, he is telling us he wants to help us or also walk together with us so that whatever burden we are going through can be lighter for us to carry. The promise of Jesus has always been fulfilled in our lives as Christians because Jesus always keeps to his words and promises for us. When we obey the laws of God, we will discover that it’s not burden but a liberating force that helps us go through life no matter what may happen to us.
 
That is why St Paul in the second reading is advising us to die to sin and continue to have hope in a better future to come. That is why even though we may be suffering the suffering is temporary and Jesus will give us true life after our sufferings.
 
On another note, I will be announcing some changes to our morning masses during the week. The English community have spoken to me, and I have listened and reflected over it. Hence, the change that will be coming by explanation. Also, my 25th anniversary is coming up and I have personally invited you all to join me as I give thanks to God for his graces for me over all these years.

El tiempo que profetizó el profeta Zacarías, fue un momento difícil para el pueblo de Israel y los judíos. Fue el momento en que fueron conquistados por los babilonios y llevados al exilio como esclavos en una tierra extranjera. Después de su regreso, la mayoría de ellos se sintieron decepcionados e incluso perdieron la esperanza en Dios. Entonces, cuando el profeta les decía que se regocijaran, algunos de ellos no vieron la razón. Pero el profeta estaba tratando de darles la esperanza de que no todo está perdido, y que Dios les dará la oportunidad de prosperar nuevamente.
 
Viniendo al Evangelio, Jesús invita a aquellos que se sienten sobrecargados a que se acerquen a él y él hará que las cosas sean mejores para ellos. En la antigüedad, el uso del yugo es muy común ya que dos animales, especialmente burros o vacas, lo usan para que los dos trabajen en armonía y estén juntos mientras trabajan en la granja. Además, en tiempos de Jesús, las leyes del judaísmo eran consideradas una carga para el pueblo. Entonces, cuando Jesús nos invita, nos está diciendo que quiere ayudarnos o también caminar junto a nosotros para que cualquier carga por la que estemos pasando sea más liviana para nosotros. La promesa de Jesús siempre se ha cumplido en nuestras vidas como cristianos porque Jesús siempre cumple sus palabras y promesas para nosotros. Cuando obedecemos las leyes de Dios, descubriremos que no es una carga sino una fuerza liberadora que nos ayuda a pasar por la vida sin importar lo que nos pueda pasar.
 
Por eso San Pablo en la segunda lectura nos aconseja morir al pecado y seguir teniendo esperanza en un futuro mejor por venir. Por eso, aunque estemos sufriendo, el sufrimiento es temporal y Jesús nos dará la verdadera vida después de nuestros sufrimientos.
 
En otra nota, estaré anunciando algunos cambios en nuestras misas matutinas durante la semana. La comunidad inglesa me ha hablado, y he escuchado y reflexionado sobre ello. De ahí, el cambio que vendrá por explicación. Además, se acerca mi 25 aniversario y los he invitado personalmente a todos a unirse a mí mientras doy gracias a Dios por sus gracias para mí durante todos estos años.

Last week we saw how the prophet of God Jeremiah was persecuted and how he prayed for God to avenge the hatred that people had for him. Today we hear a story about another prophet Elisha. Elisha was treated well by the family he was visiting by showing kindness to him to give him accommodation so that he can rest on his journey. Elisha lived around 800 years before Christ and he normally travelled to Mount Carmel to pray and hence his passing through a town nearby and stopping to rest. In those days, hotels or motels were not actually common and therefore people depended on the hospitality of good people to accommodate them in their homes on their journeys and most journeys in those days were done on foot. The kindness shown to Elisha also resulted in the blessing of Elisha on the woman to bear a son.
 
Jesus’ message in the gospel today may be a challenge for some of us and we may be questioning how we can truly follow the advice of Jesus. But Christ is not telling to hate our loved ones but rather we should give the first place to him in our lives. Christ was not asking us for self-glory but just that we give him a central place in our hearts. If you truly love someone, you would want to give all to that person in your life. Same with us in our relationship with Jesus.
 
We see that in the first reading of today and the gospel, we can give kindness as a theme. The kindness of the woman to the prophet Elisha yielded result of Elisha blessing the woman and Christ also tells us that we shall receive our reward when we practice kindness towards those who are called to serve us as pastors or priests. In giving up our lives for Christ and one another that we shall also gain God’s favor in all that we do. So, let us not get tired of doing good or practicing kindness or charity.

La semana pasada vimos como el profeta de Dios Jeremías fue perseguido y como rogo para que Dios se vengara del odio que la gente le tenía. Hoy escuchamos una historia sobre otro profeta Eliseo. Eliseo fue tratado muy bien por la familia que estaba visitando al mostrarle bondad y darle alojamiento para que pudiera descansar en su viaje. Eliseo vivió alrededor de 800 años antes de Cristo y normalmente viajaba al Monte Carmelo para orar y de ahí su paso por un pueblo cercano y detenerse a descansar. En aquellos días, los hoteles o moteles en realidad no eran comunes y, por lo tanto, las personas dependían de la hospitalidad de buenas personas para acomodarlos en sus hogares en sus viajes y la mayoría de los viajes en esos días se hacían a pie. La bondad mostrada a Eliseo también resultó en la bendición de Eliseo sobre la mujer para que diera a luz un hijo.
 
El mensaje de Jesús en el evangelio de hoy puede ser un desafío para algunos de nosotros y podemos estar cuestionando cómo podemos seguir verdaderamente el consejo de Jesús. Pero Cristo no está diciendo que odiemos a nuestros seres queridos, sino que debemos darle el primer lugar en nuestras vidas. Cristo no nos estaba pidiendo gloria propia, sino que le demos un lugar central en nuestros corazones. Si realmente amas a alguien, querrás darle todo a esa persona en tu vida. Lo mismo con nosotros en nuestra relación con Jesús.
 
Vemos que en la primera lectura de hoy y del evangelio, podemos dar como tema la bondad. La bondad de la mujer hacia el profeta Eliseo dio como resultado que Eliseo bendiga a la mujer y Cristo también nos dice que recibiremos nuestra recompensa cuando practiquemos la bondad hacia aquellos que son llamados a servirnos como pastores o sacerdotes. Al dar nuestras vidas por Cristo y por los demás, también obtendremos el favor de Dios en todo lo que hagamos. Así que no nos cansemos de hacer el bien o de practicar la bondad o la caridad.
 
Por otro lado, hemos colocado los azulejos que pondremos en nuestro salón parroquial para que los vean. Los comentarios son bienvenidos. Si tienes otras ideas, házmelo saber ya que estoy dispuesto y listo para escucharte. Sólo queremos algo bonito para nuestro salón.

Today, we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ into heaven. Jesus actually did not leave just to be seated in heaven and not be concerned with the affairs in the world. The disciples were having doubts in their hearts about the resurrection of their master. What more of the resurrection do the apostles of Jesus Christ need to eradicate the doubt that lingers in their hearts? The Lord orders them to meet him at the mountain. If you can remember in the Gospel of Matthew 4:8, the mountain is where Jesus experienced temptation and also preached the Beatitudes (Mt 5:1). On that mountain, their faith will be strengthened even though they were sad that their master is taken away.
 
Jesus therefore called on the Apostles to go out into the world and preach the good news to all to hear. That mission that Jesus left for the Apostles to accomplish is also our own mission as the baptized people of God. We are all to carry on the work that the Apostles have also left for us building up the kingdom of God here also on earth and let all feel that they are welcome as the children of God. The mystery of the ascension poses us with the challenge to be resolute. We can be lost if live only by what can be empirically known. Jesus also promised us that he is going to be with us always till the end of the world. And yes, Jesus is with us all the time. Christ can never abandon his people or his followers in the world. For us in the Catholic Church, one strong way Jesus is with us is in the Eucharist. Let us therefore continue to believe in the Holy Eucharist for through the bread and the wine offered, Jesus made his himself present every day and every moment.
 
Today, we also celebrate the 18th year anniversary of the priestly ordination of Father Armando Morales. We pray that God will continue to guide and protect him in the mission that he has been given to him to fulfill. I also hope that we are selling our raffle tickets. Let us all endeavor and make it a success.

Hoy celebramos la Ascensión del Señor Jesucristo al cielo. Jesús en realidad no se fue solo para estar sentado en el cielo y no ser preocupado por los asuntos del mundo. Los discípulos tenían dudas en sus corazones acerca de la resurrección de su maestro. ¿Qué más de la resurrección necesitan los apóstoles de Jesucristo para erradicar la duda que anida en sus corazones? El Señor les ordena encontrarse con él en la montaña. Si puedes recordar en el Evangelio de Mateo 4:8, la montaña es donde Jesús enfrento la tentación y también predicó las Bienaventuranzas (Mt 5,1). En esa montaña, su fe se fortalecerá a pesar de que estaban tristes porque se llevaron a su amo.
 
Por lo tanto, Jesús llamó a los Apóstoles para que salieran al mundo y predicaran la buena noticia a todos para que la escuchen. Esa misión que Jesús dejó para que la cumplieran los Apóstoles es también nuestra propia misión como pueblo bautizado de Dios. Todos debemos continuar la obra que los Apóstoles también nos han dejado a construir el reino de Dios también aquí en la tierra y que todos se sientan bienvenidos como hijos de Dios. El misterio de la ascensión nos pone el desafío de ser determinados. Podemos estar perdidos si vivimos sólo por lo que se puede conocer empíricamente. Jesús también nos prometió que estará con nosotros siempre hasta el fin del mundo. Y sí, Jesús está con nosotros todo el tiempo. Cristo nunca puede abandonar a su pueblo ni a sus seguidores en el mundo. Para nosotros en la Iglesia Católica, una manera en que Jesús está con nosotros es en la Eucaristía. Por tanto, sigamos creyendo en la Sagrada Eucaristía porque a través del pan y del vino ofrecidos, Jesús se hizo presente cada día y cada momento.
 
Hoy también celebramos el 18° aniversario de la ordenación sacerdotal del Padre Armando Morales. Oramos para que Dios lo siga guiando y protegiendo en la misión que le ha sido encomendada para cumplir. También espero que estemos vendiendo nuestros boletos para la rifa. Esforcémonos todos y hagamos que sea un éxito.

The weeks of the Easter celebrations are moving fast and the weather is gradually getting warmer approaching the summer. If you have noticed, I haven’t written for some time now due to the limitation that we have in the bulletin. But now we found a way to use another form of paper in order to have my space again.
 
Let me also take this chance to wish all our mothers a very warm Mother’s Day. Know that your children love and appreciate all what you doing for them in life and surely, they will pay you back when they are out of age.
 
In the gospel of today, Jesus is inviting us all to keep his commandments. By this, people will know that we are his disciples and brothers and sisters. We may ask what is the commandment of Jesus? If you can remember, Jesus put the ten commandments into two great ones which are to love God with all our hearts and all we have and the second is to love our brothers and sisters as we love ourselves. This are the commandments that Jesus is inviting us to keep if we truly love him. It is not a coincidence that we are hearing this passage on Mother’s Day. If we love our mothers then we are also called to obey them and listen to their voice in all the good things they tell us to do and to avoid the bad ones. Jesus himself showed this love to the father by obeying his command and accepting from the father His will to come and died for us, and through this obedience he was raised from the dead for our salvation.
 
Jesus also promised us to send us the paraclete that is the Holy Spirit who will guide us in our way of life. The spirit is always with us just as Jesus is also always with us, because the father, the son and the Holy Spirit move together in unison.
 
Thank you all for participating in our parish programs and also for accepting the raffle tickets that we sent to you. Together we can do great things in the parish. I therefore encourage you to continue in this spirit.

Las semanas de las celebraciones de la pascua avanzan rápido y el clima se vuelve cada vez más cálido a medida que se acerca el verano. Si te has dado cuenta, hace tiempo que no escribo por la limitación que tenemos en el boletín. Pero ahora encontramos una manera de usar otra forma de papel para tener mi espacio nuevamente.
 
Permítanme también aprovechar esta oportunidad para desearles a todas nuestras madres un muy cálido Día de la Madre. Sepa que sus hijos  las aman y aprecian todo lo que hacen por ellos en la vida y seguramente, les devolverán el favor cuando tengan la edad.
 
En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos invita a todos a guardar sus mandamientos. Por esto, la gente sabrá que somos sus discípulos y hermanos y hermanas. Podemos preguntar ¿cuál es el mandamiento de Jesús? Si puedes recordar, Jesús puso los diez mandamientos en dos grandes que son amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón y todo lo que tenemos y el segundo es amar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas como nos amamos a nosotros mismos. Estos son los mandamientos que Jesús nos invita a guardar si verdaderamente lo amamos. No es casualidad que estemos escuchando este pasaje en el Día de la Madre. Si amamos a nuestras madres entonces también estamos llamados a obedecerlas y escuchar su voz en todas las cosas buenas que nos dicen que hagamos y evitar las malas. Jesús mismo mostró este amor al padre al obedecer su mandato y aceptar del padre Su voluntad de venir y morir por nosotros, y por esta obediencia resucitó de entre los muertos para nuestra salvación.
 
Jesús también nos prometió enviarnos el paráclito que es el Espíritu Santo que nos guiará en nuestro camino de vida. El espíritu está siempre con nosotros así como Jesús también está siempre con nosotros, porque el padre, el hijo y el Espíritu Santo se mueven juntos en unidad.
 
Gracias a todos por participar en nuestros programas parroquiales y también por aceptar los boletos de la rifa que les enviamos. Juntos podemos hacer grandes cosas en la parroquia. Por lo tanto, los animo a continuar con este espíritu.

We are already in the third week of Lent. When we read the Bible, it does take a lot of faith to believe in all the miracles mentioned in it. Today we hear about another one as God miraculously provides water from a rock for his people during their desert journey. Today in his marvelous storytelling style, John tells us about Jesus who desires to offer all who would believe in him living water, a miracle infinitely more wondrous than the fabled fountain of youth.
 
Jesus very cleverly introduces the idea by asking for a drink. The Samaritan woman was shocked- not only because Jews and Samaritans hated one another and had nothing to do with one another, but also because in that culture men never spoke with women in public, least of all one who was a stranger. By offering living water, Jesus was deliberately vague, offering something she would see as a great convenience, without having any idea how precious a gift it is he offers. We notice how Jesus controls the conversation and he keeps directing her to faith in himself. When he brings up something personal about her, her intimate life with a man to whom she is not married, then it gets really spooky for her. She quickly changes the subject, but he persists in fascinating her so much so that she becomes fascinated enough to spread the word to her neighbors about this unique person she had met. We all need this living water to move on in life. We must come in terms of ourselves along the way to have this encounter also with Jesus who knows the outmost secrets of our lives.
 
The important message that we must learn from the gospel today is that, the more we engage with Jesus in reflection and prayer even in spite of distractions, the more he seeks to lead us into deeper relationship with himself and with the father.

Ya estamos en la tercera semana de Cuaresma. Cuando leemos la Biblia, se necesita mucha fe para creer en todos los milagros que se mencionan en ella. Hoy escuchamos acerca de otro cuando Dios milagrosamente provee agua de una roca para su pueblo durante su viaje por el desierto. Hoy, en su maravilloso estilo narrativo, Juan nos habla de Jesús, que desea ofrecer a todos los que crean en él agua viva, un milagro infinitamente más maravilloso que la legendaria fuente de la juventud.
 
Jesús muy hábilmente introduce la idea al pedir agua. La mujer samaritana se sorprendió, no solo porque los judíos y los samaritanos se odiaban y no tenían nada que ver entre sí, sino también porque en esa cultura los hombres nunca hablaban con las mujeres en público, y mucho menos con una extraña. Al ofrecer agua viva, Jesús fue deliberadamente enigmatico ofreciendo algo que ella vería como una gran conveniencia, sin tener idea de cuán precioso es el regalo que él ofrece. Notamos como Jesús controla la conversación y la sigue dirigiendo a la fe en sí mismo. Cuando él saca a relucir algo personal sobre ella, su vida íntima con un hombre con el que no está casada, se vuelve realmente espeluznante para ella. Ella cambia rápidamente de tema, pero él persiste en fascinarla tanto que ella queda lo suficientemente fascinada como para pasar la voz a sus vecinos sobre esta persona única que había conocido. Todos necesitamos esta agua viva para seguir adelante en la vida. Debemos ir en función de nosotros mismos en el camino para tener este encuentro también con Jesús que conoce los secretos más remotos de nuestra vida.
 
El mensaje importante que debemos aprender del evangelio de hoy es que, cuanto más nos comprometemos con Jesús en la reflexión y la oración, incluso a pesar de las distracciones, más busca El llevarnos a una relación más profunda con él y con el padre.

Today is the second Sunday of Lent. The days and the weeks are going by quickly and before we realize, it we shall be celebrating the pascal mysteries.
 
Human migration has been there for a very long time since the creation of the world by God. Because of human migration, we have populated all parts of the world.
 
In today’s first reading, we encounter Abraham our father in the faith who was asked by God to go to another land.
 
Abraham did not question God but just obeyed and left his comfort zone to another place as God has indicated him to do. Because of his obedience to the voice of God, Abraham was blessed. The question we must be asking ourselves is whether we too listen to the voice of God and obey it. If not during this time of Lent, we have to actually listen to the voice of God. Abraham’s action was an act of faith in God.
 
Today in the gospel, we hear about Jesus whose importance outweighs anyone who ever lived. St. Matthew tells us today of Jesus’ transfiguration. The event is recorded four times in the New Testament. In all three of the gospels, the transfiguration is preceded by Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Messiah who has come to them.
 
The transfiguration is a visible manifestation of who Jesus is and where his suffering would lead. Lest there be any doubt about the matter, God the Father spoke up to make things clear; “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
 
How does all that apply to us? It gives us hope in our own sufferings. Suffering and death will not have the last word in the lives of those who follow Jesus for just as Jesus could predict that he would be raised, he promises us a share in his glory and in his kingdom: “For this is the will of my father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day” (John 6:40)

Hoy es el segundo domingo de Cuaresma. Los días y las semanas pasan rápido y antes de que nos demos cuenta, estaremos celebrando los misterios pascuales.
 
La migración humana ha estado allí durante mucho tiempo desde la creación del mundo por Dios. Debido a la migración humana, hemos poblado todas las partes del mundo.
 
En la primera lectura de hoy, nos encontramos con Abraham, nuestro padre en la fe, a quien Dios le pidió que fuera a otra tierra.
 
Abraham no cuestionó a Dios sino que simplemente obedeció y dejó su zona de confort en otro lugar como Dios le había indicado que hiciera. Debido a su obediencia a la voz de Dios, Abraham fue bendecido. La pregunta que debemos hacernos es si nosotros también escuchamos la voz de Dios y la obedecemos. Si no es durante este tiempo de Cuaresma, tenemos que escuchar la voz de Dios. La acción de Abraham fue un acto de fe en Dios.
 
En el  evangelio de hoy, escuchamos acerca de Jesús, cuya importancia supera a cualquiera que haya vivido. San Mateo nos habla hoy de la transfiguración de Jesús. El evento se registra cuatro veces en el Nuevo Testamento. En los tres evangelios, la transfiguración es precedida por la confesión de Pedro de Jesús como el Mesías que ha venido a ellos.
 
La transfiguración es una manifestación visible de quién es Jesús y hacia dónde conduciría su sufrimiento. Para que no haya ninguna duda al respecto, Dios Padre habló para aclarar las cosas; ‘Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia’.
 
¿Cómo se aplica todo eso a nosotros? Nos da esperanza en nuestros propios sufrimientos. El sufrimiento y la muerte no tendrán la última palabra en la vida de los que siguen a Jesús porque así como Jesús pudo predecir que resucitaría, nos promete una participación en su gloria y en su reino: “Porque esta es la voluntad de mi padre, que todo el que ve al Hijo y cree en él tenga vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el último día” (Juan 6:40)

Once again, we started the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday whereby we were reminded that we are dust and to dust we shall return. Today we are celebrating the first Sunday of Lent. In this first Sunday of Lent, we are given the example of Jesus himself who was tempted by the devil or Satan to seek his own comfort in life. Remember that Jesus was also human like us apart from sin.
 
Temptations always attract us to something that looks good, even when we know it will not be good for us in the long run-that is the nature of temptation. The fact of the matter is, we are all tempted every moment in our lives.
 
We will notice that the story of the temptation of Jesus is always put before us at the beginning of lent and the question we must ask is why? The answer is so simple so that we can follow the example of Jesus, to set aside time for prayer and self-sacrifice and fasting so that we can have the strength and the power to overcome all the temptations that we will encounter especially during this period of lent. Another traditional practice that we are called to do in this time of lent is almsgiving that is giving to charity works. There is no end to this practice as we all know what happened in Syria and Turkey about the earthquake. Our archdiocese always asks us to help people in these dying times by donating whatever we can afford to alleviate their sufferings. Just last week we had also the pledge for our Annual Catholic Appeal. This appeal goes a long way to help those who are poor and in need. So, giving of alms is very much encourage during this time of lent. I am proud to let you know that last year we passed our goal of 10,000 plus pledge in our parish and this showed that you are very generous even though you do not have much.
 
For the next forty days, we shall journey with Jesus in the desert preparing ourselves for the celebration of his great resurrection. Let us therefore try in our own little way to adhere to the practices of the Lenten period so that in the end we can be enriched spiritually. Let us use this period of lent to reflect on who we are as Catholics and also as members pertain to this community of believers in Immaculate Conception and St Michael and forge a spirit of unity and harmony, tolerance, accepting one another as we are, and above all loving and caring for one another.

Una vez más comenzamos el tiempo de Cuaresma con el Miércoles de Ceniza en el que se nos recordó que somos polvo y al polvo volveremos. Hoy estamos celebrando el primer domingo de Cuaresma. En este primer domingo de Cuaresma, se nos da el ejemplo del mismo Jesús que fue tentado por el diablo o Satanás para buscar su propia comodidad en la vida. Recuerda que Jesús también fue humano como nosotros aparte del pecado.
 
Las tentaciones siempre nos atraen hacia algo que se ve bien, incluso cuando sabemos que no será bueno para nosotros a largo plazo; esa es la naturaleza de la tentación. El hecho es que todos somos tentados en cada momento de nuestras vidas.
 
Nos daremos cuenta que la historia de la tentación de Jesús siempre se nos presenta al comienzo de la cuaresma y la pregunta que debemos hacernos es ¿por qué? La respuesta es tan simple para que podamos seguir el ejemplo de Jesús, reservar tiempo para la oración y el sacrificio y el ayuno para que podamos tener la fuerza y el poder para vencer todas las tentaciones que encontraremos especialmente durante este período. de cuaresma Otra práctica tradicional que estamos llamados a realizar en este tiempo de cuaresma es la limosna que es dar para obras de caridad. Esta práctica no tiene fin, ya que todos sabemos lo que sucedió en Siria y Turquía sobre el terremoto. Nuestra arquidiócesis siempre nos pide que ayudemos a las personas en estos momentos de muerte donando todo lo que podamos para aliviar sus sufrimientos. La semana pasada también tuvimos la promesa de nuestra Campaña Católica Anual. Este llamado recorre un largo camino para ayudar a los pobres y necesitados. Por lo tanto, dar limosna es muy alentador durante este tiempo de cuaresma. Me enorgullece informarles que el año pasado superamos nuestra meta de más de 10,000 promesas en nuestra parroquia y esto demostró que son muy generosos a pesar de que no tienen mucho.
 
Durante los próximos cuarenta días, caminaremos con Jesús en el desierto preparándonos para la celebración de su gran Resurrección. Procuremos, pues, a nuestra pequeña manera, adherirnos a las prácticas del período de Cuaresma para que al final podamos ser enriquecidos espiritualmente. Aprovechemos este período de cuaresma para reflexionar sobre quiénes somos como católicos y también como miembros de esta comunidad de creyentes en la Inmaculada Concepción y San Miguel y forjemos un espíritu de unidad y armonía, tolerancia, aceptándonos como somos, y sobre todo amándonos y cuidándonos unos a otros.
 
Mantente bendecido y sé feliz en el Señor hasta que nos encontremos el próximo domingo en la mesa del Señor y no olvidéis que Jesús os ama a todos.

Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to you all.

As a child I long for Christmas to come for is the time my parents will buy new clothes and shoes for us and we eat special foods with the entire family. Is a time also that we received visitors of our relatives who come to share the joy of the birth of Christ with us.

This year I feel inspired to focus on what is most central to Christmas and that is Jesus’ birth.

I want to share with you today four central themes on Christmas. The first one is birthdays. When we celebrate them, we send cards and give gifts. We are saying the person whose birthday we are celebrating is important to us. They are a source of joy, and inspiration, a friend, they enrich us in some way. We do not know the    exact date that Jesus was born or even the year exactly, although the year most scholars seem to agree on was 6 BC. But it does not really matter; the most important thing is that he was born, he came to this world through a woman and took our flesh as human so that he can truly understand us and know how to love us. He lived like us apart from sin.

The second point I want to say is that, if we want to experience the real spirit of Christmas, then we have to look into our heart and discover what Jesus means to us: does he give us hope, forgiveness, peace; is his wisdom a guide for us through our struggles in life? Christ has really influenced the world than any other person in the world. So, who is Jesus for me?

The third point is the manger. A place where most of us we will not want to even stand for a long time, but that is where the savior of the world was born to identify with the poor and the suffering.

The manger led us to the fourth theme which is the Eucharist. Jesus told us that he is food and drink for us and that if we eat him and drink him then we will have eternal life. It took people a lot of faith to believe in Jesus as the Messiah and the son of God. The same way, it takes faith to really believe in the Eucharist. Jesus is always with us and is being born every day in our hearts. Christ is with us in many ways like in the scripture, in the community of  believers that is the church and by our brothers and sisters. But the Eucharist is the most pure and sure way to meet and encounter him. It is a blessing for me to celebrate the birth of Jesus with you as a community I hope that from these thoughts you might take something with you to help you know why you should celebrate today.

Let me also take this chance to say a big thank you to you all for my birthday celebration. You always show me love and care and I know you love me and care for me and I also love you all and have concern about each and every one of you. Since I will not be here with you for the new year, I wish you all also a happy new year and may the Lord protect us all during the coming year for Love to grow in our hearts.

May God keep us all under his care until we meet again next Sunday at the feast of the Lord.

Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad a todos.

Como un niño anhelo que llegue  la Navidad, porque es el tiempo en que  mis padres me compran ropa y zapatos nuevos para usar y comemos comida especial con toda la familia.  Es  tiempo también de recibir visitas de nuestros familiares quienes vienen para celebrar la alegría del nacimiento de Jesús. 

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes cuatro temas centrales de Navidad.  El primero es los cumpleaños.  Cuando nosotros los celebramos, mandamos tarjetas y damos regalos.  Le decimos a la persona que está celebrando su cumpleaños lo importante que es para nosotros.  Ellos son una fuente de alegría, inspiración, amigos que de alguna manera nos enriquecen.   No sabemos la fecha exacta que Jesús nació ni siquiera el año, pero algunos eruditos parecen estar de acuerdo que fue 6 BC, pero eso realmente no importa; la cosa más importante es que el nació, vino a este mundo por medio de una mujer y se hizo hombre para poder verdaderamente  entendernos y amarnos.  El vivió como nosotros pero sin pecado. 

El segundo punto quiero decirles que si verdaderamente queremos experimentar el espíritu Navideño, entonces debemos ver nuestro corazón y descubrir lo que Jesús significa para  nosotros; Nos da esperanza, perdón, paz; es su sabiduría una guía para nosotros en nuestra vida?  Ha influenciado Cristo verdaderamente en el mundo más que otra persona, si es así quien es Jesús para mí? 

El Tercer punto es el pesebre.  Un lugar donde la mayoría de nosotros no queremos estar por mucho tiempo, pero es donde nuestro salvador nació para identificar a los pobres y a los que sufren. 

El pesebre nos lleva al Cuarto punto que es la Eucaristía.  Jesús nos dijo que es la comida y la bebida para nosotros y que si nosotros comemos y bebemos su cuerpo y sangre tendremos vida eterna. A la gente le toma mucha fe para creer en Jesús como el Mesías y el hijo de Dios.  De igual manera también toma mucha fe creer realmente en la Eucaristía.  Jesús siempre está con nosotros y nace en nuestros corazones.  Cristo está con nosotros de diferentes maneras como en las escrituras, en la comunidad de creyentes que es la iglesia y en nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Pero la Eucaristía es el modo más puro y seguro de tener ese encuentro con él.  Es una bendición para mí celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús con ustedes como comunidad, espero que de estos pensamientos tomen algo que los ayude a saber porque deben celebrar hoy. 

Déjenme también tomar esta oportunidad de agradecerles grandemente a todos por la celebración de mi cumpleaños.  Ustedes siempre me demuestran su amor y cuidado y yo sé que me aman y me cuidan yo también los amo y me preocupo por cada uno de ustedes.  En Año Nuevo no estaré con ustedes por los que les deseo un feliz año, y que el Señor los proteja en el año venidero y que el amor crezca en sus corazones.

Que el Señor nos tenga bajo su cuidado hasta el próximo Domino en la fiesta del Señor.

St. James tells us in today’s second reading: “Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord.” In our gospel, John the Baptist is now in prison. Was he becoming impatient because our Lord has not rescued him? Didn’t Jesus claim, quoting Isaiah, that he had been sent “to proclaim liberty to captives?” (Lk 4:18) One gets the impression from John’s preaching that he expected the kingdom of God to come in a very short time. On the other hand, there is always the possibility he was sending his disciples to Jesus so they would learn about Jesus and the marvelous things he was doing. I am sure no one could know the motivation John the Baptist had for sending his disciples to Jesus to ask whether he was the one who is to come. Prophets can see things much more clearly the rest of us can. The main point St. Matthew is making for his readers is that the work of Jesus shows that God’s kingdom has begun. The answer of Jesus to John’s disciples as to whether he is the expected Messiah sounds as if it comes right out of our first reading from Isaiah: “the blind see, the lame walk, the deaf hear, etc.”

How often we also ask the same question of Jesus as John did. I have heard so often when people are sick how they question God if he is truly there with them. Some even get angry with God that he has forgotten about them or that he is not listening to their prayers. With all what is happening in our world of today we may all turn to ask the same question as John. There are many answers from great thinkers about suffering. The best answer is that Jesus is the savior.

Once when people thought Jesus was talking crazy (like eat my flesh and drink my blood), and they started walking away, Jesus turned to the apostles and asked them: “Are you going to leave me also?” Peter then answered: “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy one of God.”

After, as a priest, I have explored all other options to explain suffering, Jesus is the only answer that makes sense to me. It takes a lot of faith sometimes to keep trusting that God is in the process of bringing about his kingdom of love and justice and peace.

St. James tells us today, “You must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” A firm faith gives us hope, and hope keeps us from despair; even more it is a source of joy helping us to trust in the life that is to come, a life “crowned with everlasting joy” as the prophet Isaias says.

Santiago nos dice en la segunda lectura de hoy: “Tened paciencia, hermanos y hermanas, hasta la venida del Señor”. En nuestro evangelio, Juan el Bautista está ahora en prisión. ¿Se estaba impacientando? ¿Porque nuestro Señor no lo ha rescatado? ¿No afirmó Jesús, citando a Isaías, que había sido enviado “a proclamar libertad a los cautivos”? (Lc 4,18) De la predicación de Juan se tiene la impresión de que esperaba que el reino de Dios llegara en muy poco tiempo. Por otro lado, siempre existe la posibilidad de que estuviera enviando a sus discípulos a Jesús para que aprendieran acerca de Jesús y las cosas maravillosas que estaba haciendo. Estoy seguro de que nadie podría saber la motivación que tuvo Juan el Bautista para enviar a sus discípulos a Jesús para preguntarle si él era el que había de venir. Los profetas pueden ver las cosas mucho más claramente que el resto de nosotros. El punto principal que San Mateo está presentando a sus lectores es que la obra de Jesús muestra que el reino de Dios ha comenzado. La respuesta de Jesús a los discípulos de Juan sobre si él es el Mesías esperado suena como si viniera directamente de nuestra primera lectura de Isaías: “los ciegos ven, los cojos caminan, los sordos oyen, etc.”

Cuán a menudo también le hacemos a Jesús la misma pregunta que le hizo Juan. He escuchado muy a menudo cuando las personas están enfermas cómo cuestionan a Dios si realmente está allí con ellos. Algunos incluso se enojan con Dios porque se ha olvidado de ellos o porque no está escuchando sus oraciones. Con todo lo que está sucediendo en nuestro mundo de hoy, todos podemos volvernos a hacer la misma pregunta que John. Hay muchas respuestas de grandes pensadores sobre el sufrimiento. La mejor respuesta es que Jesús es el salvador.

Una vez, cuando la gente pensó que Jesús estaba hablando como una locura (como comer mi carne y beber mi sangre), y comenzaron a alejarse, Jesús se volvió hacia los apóstoles y les preguntó: “¿Van a dejarme a mí también?” Entonces Pedro respondió: “Maestro, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes las palabras de la vida eterna. Hemos llegado a creer y estamos convencidos de que tú eres el Santo de Dios”.

Después de haber explorado como sacerdote todas las demás opciones para explicar el sufrimiento, Jesús es la única respuesta que tiene sentido para mí. A veces se necesita mucha fe para seguir confiando en que Dios está en el proceso de traer su reino de amor y justicia y paz.

Santiago nos dice hoy, “Debes ser paciente. Afirmad vuestros corazones, porque la venida del Señor está cerca”. Una fe firme nos da esperanza, y la esperanza nos guarda de la desesperación; más aún es fuente de alegría que nos ayuda a confiar en la vida que está por venir, una vida “coronada de gozo eterno” como dice el profeta Isaías.

Que el Señor nos tenga bajo su cuidado hasta el próximo Domino en la fiesta del Señor.
