​FROM THE PASTORS DESK
 
Today is the twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Can we call the rich of the time of Amos shrewd? They became rich by cheating the poor. They had no respect for “holy days” and they busied themselves with their own selfish interests. In the eyes of people they were certainly shrewd, but in the eyes of God they ruined themselves. This is what the first reading of today is teaching us. We see this happening in our world of today that the rich are just concern about their riches and do not care about the poor in the society. We really need a prophetic voice of our time to point out the injustices that are happening in our world.
 
Jesus tells us in the gospel that we are “shrewd” if we use the goods of this world to help others. In this way we acquire the only thing that counts, the friendship of the poor. The steward displays certain shrewdness. Those debtors will never forget his generosity and will certainly welcome him into their homes. Jesus concludes the story by praising the
steward for his cleverness. But the question that we must ask here is whether Jesus wants us to do the same like this steward. The answer is known but rather we must be wise in the spiritual things to win souls for God and to also reach our own salvation at the end of our time here on earth.
 
To understand this truth, so difficult to accept, we need prayer. Paul tells us this in the second reading. The prayer of the Christian community is universal; it is addressed to God for both the good and the wicked, for friends and enemies alike. The Christian does not make distinctions based on race, tribe, nationality, social class, intelligent or wealth.
 
May we try in our own little way to be generous to the poor and to help them in our society. We can do all this if we are prayerful.
 
Very soon we shall be announcing our program for the parish and school banquet that we shall be having next year in February 11th 2023. Also this coming October 29th, the Guadalupano Group will be organizing a dance and we ask that we all help them for the event to be a success. Also, very soon we shall be starting novena for the celebration of the feast of Virgin of Juquila. We will be asking for your collaboration.
 
May God keep us all under his care until we meet again next Sunday at the feast of the Lord.

Hoy es el vigésimo quinto domingo del tiempo ordinario. ¿Podemos llamar astutos a los ricos de la época de Amós? Se enriquecieron engañando a los pobres. No tenían respeto por los “días santos” y se ocupaban de sus propios intereses egoístas. A los ojos de la gente ciertamente eran astutos, pero a los ojos de Dios se arruinaron a sí mismos. Esto es lo que nos enseña la primera lectura de hoy. Vemos que esto sucede en nuestro mundo de hoy que los ricos solo se preocupan por sus riquezas y no se preocupan por los pobres en la sociedad. Realmente necesitamos una voz profética de nuestro tiempo para señalar las injusticias que están sucediendo en nuestro mundo.
 
Jesús nos dice en el evangelio que somos “astutos” si usamos los bienes de este mundo para ayudar a los demás. Así adquirimos lo único que cuenta, la amistad de los pobres. El mayordomo hace gala de cierta astucia. Esos deudores nunca olvidarán su generosidad y ciertamente lo acogerán en sus hogares. Jesús concluye la historia alabando al mayordomo por su inteligencia. Pero la pregunta que debemos hacernos aquí es si Jesús quiere que hagamos lo mismo que este mayordomo. La respuesta es conocida pero debemos ser sabios en las cosas espirituales para ganar almas para Dios y alcanzar también nuestra propia salvación al final de nuestro tiempo aquí en la tierra.
 
Para comprender esta verdad, tan difícil de aceptar, necesitamos la oración. Pablo nos dice esto en la segunda lectura. La oración de la comunidad cristiana es universal; está dirigida a Dios tanto para los buenos como para los malos, tanto para los amigos como para los enemigos. El cristiano no hace distinciones basadas en raza, tribu, nacionalidad, clase social, inteligencia o riqueza.
 
Que intentemos, a nuestra manera, ser generosos con los pobres y ayudarlos en nuestra sociedad. Podemos hacer todo esto si oramos.
 
Muy pronto estaremos anunciando nuestro programa para el banquete parroquial y escolar que tendremos el próximo año el 11 de febrero de 2023. También este próximo 29 de octubre el Grupo Guadalupano estará organizando un baile y pedimos que todos los ayudemos para el evento sea un éxito. Además, muy pronto estaremos iniciando la novena por la celebración de la fiesta de la Virgen de Juquila. Estaremos pidiendo su colaboración.
 
               Que el Señor nos tenga bajo su cuidado hasta el próximo Domino en la fiesta del Señor.
